So recently I finished my third semester at my local community college.

My GPA was a little low going into the third, ~2.8, and I was taking Computer Science II, History II, and Engineering Physics. I got an A in Comp Sci as well as History, however I only managed a C in Physics.

Distraught, I hoped the other two A’s pushed my GPA up to a 3, however, I found out that it became only a 2.96; 0.04 points away from possibly thousands of dollars in aid after my planned transfer to a four-year institution.

Since the only grade I could possibly affect was Physics, I contacted my professor, telling him about my predicament and that I’d be willing to redo any homework from the class.

The way he explained it, I was 1.5% away in the class from a B. So he decided that if I finished the 10-point extra-credit assignment that I hadn’t done while in the class, it would be enough to push my grade up to the next letter.

So I worked with him over email, and through much trial and error since, well, for a project that was as many points as an entire lab report, but more in-depth, it was difficult. But after a week or two and many calculations, I finally got it right.

Just today, I found out that my Engineering Physics grade was officially changed to a B, and my GPA up to 3.06 because of it. This also means I am now eligible for many more scholarships and grants and such transferring into a four-year college.

I’d like to thank Professor Eltzroth for raising my grade and thus my GPA. He really saved me!
